Courtauld Gallery & British Museum

First big day of museum going. Courtauld Gallery in Sommerset House was the start to our day after a walk through the theatre district and Covent Garden market Where we discovered Drury Lane but found no muffin man. :) The Courtauld has an incredible Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection; small but each is a gem. Works by Manet, Cezanne and Gauguin are highlights.

In the 19th century the British flag flew over 25% of the world's territory. They brought a lot of objects back to their home soil and their all here at the British Museum (though some countries want them back now!).

Images below are 1. Sommerset House/Courtauld Gallery, 2. A Bar at the Folies-Bergere, by Edouard Manet (last major work by this artist); 3. Drury Lane; 4.British Museum; 5. Egyptian Galleries; 6. Parthanon Frieze; 7. Parthanon Pediment Sculptures; 8. Rosetta Stone.
